

Mullingar Music School is a multi-award winning school providing excellent tuition by qualified and experienced professionals – all of whom have been Garda vetted.
At Mullingar Music School we offer tuition in a variety of instruments and offer group courses for younger children, including our popular Introduction to Musical Instruments.
The majority of our students sit the Royal Irish Academy of Music, RGT or ABRSM music exams. We encourage our students to take exams but they can also learn just for fun!
Meet our teachers
Aoife O'Reilly
Piano
Founder of Mullingar Music School, Aoife teaches piano, flute, theory, Leaving Cert and Junior Cert music. She graduated from NUI Maynooth with a Bachelor of Music Degree in 2006 and completed the Graduate Diploma in Music Education in the University of Limerick in 2007.
Following that she completed the Advanced Diploma in Special Educational Needs (Queen’s University Belfast) specialising in autism and dyslexia. Aoife has been teaching for the past fifteen years and is also frequently involved in musical theatre and choral conducting in schools. Many of her pupils have won High Achiever Awards with the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Aoife regularly accompanies exam students and provides specialist music education for those with learning difficulties.
Niall Mannion
Violin-Piano
Niall Mannion is a violin and piano teacher from Moate with ten years experience. In violin he initially completed grade 8, Senior Certificate and Advanced Recital Medal and after studying at the Royal Irish Academy of Music he completed his Associate & Licentiate Teacher Diplomas.
As well as teaching he has vast performing experience of orchestral, ensemble and recital playing including being part of the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland and County Kildare Orchestra. He completed a Bachelor of Music degree at NUI Maynooth specializing in violin performance. In piano, Niall has completed RIAM & ABRSM grade 8 and two performance diplomas from London College of Music and frequently accompanies exam candidates, provides wedding music and plays at functions/concerts. He has also completed a foundation certificate in organ playing and a Diploma in Community and Group Music Teaching. Niall has been teaching with Mullingar Music School for two years and has previously taught in the Academy of Music, Tullamore and also currently teaches with Music Generation Offaly/Westmeath.
Andrew Yau
Piano-Flute-Cello-Voice
Andrew graduated from NUI Maynooth with a Bachelor of Music degree (BMus) in 2012. During his time studying music there, he sang in the NUIM Choral Society, NUIM Chamber Choir and also studied Gregorian plainchant under Dr. John O’Keefe. Andrew completed his training with Dr. Doreen Rao receiving his certificate for choral conducting and choral education from D.I.T and the Choral Music Institute in July 2015.
Andrew will be working alongside other choral conductors and accompanists selected by Music Generation Offaly/ Westmeath with leading choral director and director of the National Youth Choir of Ireland and the Cross Border Orchestra; Greg Beardsell in Singfest 2016 in co-ordination with Music Generation Offaly/Westmeath, held at A.I.T taking up the roles of conducting, vocal instructor, musicianship and piano accompanist with a senior choir comprised of teenagers from around the county. Andrew is director of The Treble Starters, a youth choir based in Mullingar Music School working with children from ages 8 and up performing pieces of varying styles covering classical, modern, jazz, gospel and pop. His main instrument is piano in which he studied a variety of art music including classical and contemporary. He frequently accompanies students for exams, recitals,musicals and provides music for weddings and events around the country. He has appeared in the National Concert Hall, RTE television, several competitions and performed at the International Schubert Festival, singing tenor solo in Schubert’s mass. Andrew currently teaches piano, cello, flute, clarinet, music theory and voice. His main influences are noted French composers Ravel, Faure, Debussy and Messiaen. Other influences are Beethoven, Rachmaninoff and Gershwin and Liszt.
Catherine Finerty
Piano-Guitar-Voice
Catherine has been teaching with us since 2013 and specializes in the area of vocal tuition. However she also teaches guitar up to intermediate level and beginner piano. Having studied music and English at NUI Maynooth, Catherine graduated in 2013 with a first class honors Bachelor of Arts Degree. She also holds a teaching diploma.
During her time at Maynooth Catherine sang many solos with the Maynooth Choral Society, participated in many master-classes and performed voice recitals at numerous venues throughout the country. Catherine has been teaching for the past seven years and her students take exams with RIAM and RGT. Many of her pupils have attained outstanding results in their examinations and have been conferred with High Achiever Awards from the Royal Irish Academy. Catherine teaches all genres of music from Classical to Popular and adapts her approach to suit the needs of each individual student. Catherine has just completed her Masters in Performance and Musicology at NUIM.
Paulie Martin
Guitar
Teaching both acoustic and electric guitar with Mullingar Music School for the past three years, Paulie has had some of the schools best exam results in guitar. The vast majority of his pupils have received distinctions from RGT (London College of Music).
Paulie teaches various different styles of guitar from pop, folk, rock, blues, funk and reggae. In his free time he plays with various bands in town such as Ricotta, Blues Confidential and Cunla and regularly sits in with other bands. Paulie is well known in Mullingar for being a member of the band Decipher, which won the Credit Union Battle of the Bands. Paulie holds a Higher Cert level 6 in Business with Music and Instrument Technology from Athlone Institute of Technology.
Dearbhla Murray
Piano-Flute
Dearbhla is a former pupil of the Schola Cantorum in St Finian’s College, Mullingar where she received five years of extensive training in flute, piano, organ and vocal studies. Following that she completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree from NUI Maynooth and the Post-graduate Diploma in Education from University of Limerick.
She has been teaching with Mullingar Music School for the past four years. Dearbhla currently teaches piano and flute. She is also one of the facilitators of our Introduction to Musical Instruments course, which is very popular with our younger pupils.
Joey Mulligan
Guitar
Joey has been playing guitar for 14 years and teaching guitar with Mullingar Music School for the past three years. He teaches a wide range of styles including pop, rock, folk, blues, jazz, funk, metal & beginner classical. Joey holds a Higher Cert level 6 in Business with Music and Instrument Technology from Athlone Institute of Technology and plays guitar in local Mullingar band Appian Way.
Darragh Glennon
Guitar
Darragh Glennon has been teaching guitar since 2003 and has been with the school since 2009. He has performed all over Ireland, England and most recently, Australia in various bands. Holding a Higher National Diploma in Music Management, Darragh also organises events and provides our very popular, annual Guitar Songwriting and Recording summer camp. In his spare time he plays in various local bands. When he has time, he also writes music and tours under the moniker, Default Man.
